Switzerland / Italy 2006

I was in Switzerland on business for several days, spending time in Zurich and also down in Vivey.  Karen arrived in Zurich Saturday morning after getting stuck in Chicago on the way out, and we spent the day in Luzern Switzerland sightseeing and trying to stay warm (it was around 30-35 degrees most of the day).

On Sunday morning, we caught a train from Luzern down to Florence Italy, a long (6.5 hour) but beautiful (through the Alps) trip.  We spent the next three days in the Tuscany region of Italy, renting a car for two days so we could explore the surrounding area...

Florence...

San Gimignano...

Pisa (duh)...

If you look closely, you will note no less than 7 people in this picture doing some variation of the "Look, I'm holding up the tower of Pisa!!!" pose. It was absolutely hilarious watching people all over the area doing this same "unique" shot. We did not personally take a shot like this, but instead opted to take a picture of the silly tourists ...

Carrara (marble quarries)

Then on Wednesday, we took a train from Florence down to Rome...

Some gladiator guys waiting to kill some slaves or wild animals.

No matter how hard you try, you can't avoid the priests all over town.

On Friday, we toured the Vatican...
